well because most tv broadcast stations are in either in 720p or 1080i and your tv is 1080p. so it doesnt exactly have the same screen resolutions or refresh rates.
OR your tv could be on for a little bit to long so that sometimes the images temporarily burn in to ur screen

My guess would be the actual game itself and the recording of it. If that’s the only time it does it I would say that’s it. TV shows and News and whatever else you watch is normally prerecorded with adjusted settings, the games aren’t touched up as much. Hope this helps.

I just wanted to note that a plasma Panel already has about 140hz processing. And because of the plasma technology, there is no need for any faster. LCD was the technology that had the 60 and needed 120hz to correct the motion problem. There for, you having a plasma you do not need nor will you find a 120hz panel.

Your TV is 1080p. So you’re good to go as far as HD capabilities with what the cable and satellite companies are broadcasting What’s going on is that you are experiencing drag because your TV doesn’t have enough hertz. 120htz is really what you need to eliminate this, but I have heard that they are now making TVs with higher hertz than that. I don’t know exactly how it works, but I do know we have a dozen TVs in our house, 8 of which are dedicated to the NFL. We also experience the drag on Sundays on one or two of our HD TVs. It is very frustrating, but it will only happen with fast motion. Luckily, there is nothing wrong with your TV, but unfortunately you’ll have to buy a new one to correct the problem.

The same exact thing is happening to me right now during game three of the Nuggets-Lakers game.
I have no idea though. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it’s something about ABC. Because that’s the only channel that I get the NBA in HD on and it seems to be the only HD channel that goes blurry like that.
Also, it’s ESPN on ABC or whatever, so ESPN HD may be the same deal if that’s what you’re watching it on.
It’s annoying though.

I’m not sure what you mean by “blur”. However you mentioned that this is only during NBA games. That’s only one program provider and a program with a lot of movement.
My guess is that the people sending the games are not encoding at a high enough bit rate. I know that sounds a bit technical, and it is.
Digital transmissions must be “encoded” which is a process where the video is cut up into “packets” for transmission. During this process, the amount of data (bit rate) is set. More data = more detail and faster updates of the picture. It also means fewer channels on the satellite. If the encoder is set at a low bit rate, the picture will not be updated fast enough to keep up with the fast motion and you will see some strange effects (artifacts). The fact that NCAA games don’t have this problem makes me believe even more that this is what’s going on.
This is purely a problem at the transmission point and has absolutely nothing to do with your TV set.
