What is the NCAA regulations reguarding when a band can play during a game? Also I’ve noticed that during D-1AA HBCU games bands tend to go back and forth is that illegal or is the rule relaxed during those games.

From the NCAA rule book:
“Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals (Rule 1-1-6).”
I’m guessing this means that when the play clock is running, the band better not be playing, or it’s 15 yards.
At games I’ve been to, they can only play during team time-outs and media time-outs. But also, like I said if the play clock isn’t running they can play some short stuff between downs.
